Romanticize your life.

You are—without exaggeration—the main character. Act like it.

It all started with a tweet…

I'm not sure what I was going through at that moment, but seeing these two tweets really had an impact on me.

I think that we get so caught up in the day-to-day that we don’t zoom out enough to see the full picture the way other people do.

Am I rambling? Let me give an example.
I live in Europe, in one of the most beautiful capital cities on the continent. I woke up without an alarm, passed two flower shops and a cathedral on my walk to nowhere.
When I mentioned that to my friend who was jolted awake at 6am to rush through a dry, too-healthy-to-taste-good breakfast, then only to sit 1-5 hours in traffic, she sighed as if to say ‘I wish!’.

“What will it take for you to find the mundane special?”

I’ve watched enough series, and listened to enough Spotify (23k minutes according to Spotify wrapped 2021) to know how to soundtrack my own life, and what music to add!
I had a dance party walking out of the house, did a twirl and “fall on the bed” moment when I saw that my delivery was on its way, I lip synced my way down Calle Serrano.
I’m wearing comfortable (new) neon sweatpants and blogging at midnight on a Thursday!
Very Carrie Bradshaw.
Why does this matter?
Because this is it.
Like, this is iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
You can only say “I’ll start tomorrow” or “It’ll get better next year” or “once I’m not so tired” so many times. There’s no guarantee that tomorrow will come, let alone next year.
So, drink your coffee slowly, play your teeny-bopper throwbacks and get silly.
Or at least that’s what I’ve been telling myself.

You have two choices:

You can be me, the girl with some bounce in her step, mouthing Monica’s “Angel of Mine” under her mask and bopping at the crosswalk… or you can be the tight-faced woman giving me stank eye probably wondering what I had to dance for.
Everything. That’s the answer.

“You don’t need to ask for permission, or give explanations as to why you’re happy, feeling light and enjoying your life.”

and more people need to hear that.

Please, please don’t let yourself fall into the trap of communal commiserating: oh, it’s hot, oh, it’s cold, oh the government this, oh taxes that.

Complaining is not a personality.
Unless it is, and frankly, you should get a new one. Respectfully.

I get it. When everyone is joining in the chorus of meh, you don’t want to be the person who says, actually I’m just fine. I’m really happy!
Be that person anyway.

It’s not cheesy. It’s not corny. It’s not extra. Or maybe it is, so tf what?

Romanticize your life, bish.
