What is Birchbox?
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box which includes a mixture of products from both well-known and up-and-coming brands. These products are sent to you in sample size, which is convenient when you’re traveling often, and want to continue incorporating high-quality products in your beauty routine. They also promise at least one full-size product in each box which could be anything from a lipstick to an eyeshadow to eye cream.
How do you sign up for Birchbox?
There are four different options when subscribing to Birchbox: monthly, 3 months, 6 months, and annually. Obviously, the most economic option is annual, and it’s also the subscription I’m most familiar with. I found it to to be super affordable since, realistically, you’d spend much more on beauty products in a year.
What types of products do you get in a Birchbox?
I’ve received everything from Korean sheet masks to makeup brushes to clay facials to eye cream to lipstick, to perfume samples to nail polish! One thing I can say is that the boxes are always full of pleasant surprises.
Can you choose the products that you want?
No, you cannot choose what they send you; however, there is a pretty comprehensive quiz that you take upon subscribing.
This survey will allow you to share your beauty routine (ex. do you wax, shave, laser), give some information about yourself (hair type and texture, skin tone, age) your beauty concerns (cellulite, wrinkles, acne) and your style (natural products only, brands etc.) and that’s how they do their best to customize the products. This questionnaire can be updated at any point in case your needs change.
There will also be the occasional email asking you to choose your lipstick color or shade of blush for the month which is always appreciated.
5 Things I loved about Birchbox
1. I loved learning about new, up-and-coming Spanish brands! I discovered companies like Naobay and Coconat.
2. There’s an online store where you can buy the full-sized products that you love! (and subscribers get an automatic 20% discount!)
3. It’s not always in a box: some times your products come in a make-up bag or a tin which is both cute and reusable. We Stan sustainability, k? K.
4. The shipping is free and I’ve never missed a box. Seamless shipping makes my heart happy. I don’t want to spend a week with my stomach in knots thinking that my package is going to get caught up in customs or something. Boo! Every time my box arrived, it felt like Christmas!
5. It was a present from my husband! Birchbox is a way you can gift something to a friend or family member from a distance. Once they update their profiles, they can change their preferences to match their needs, and boom! You’ve just given someone a year or cute boxes, a monthly surprise (the good kind) and new products to fall in love with!
So, would I recommend Birchbox? Absolutely!
The reason I cancelled my subscription for the moment is that I wasn’t able to use the products at the rate I received them. After 3 years, I had tons of boxes, and I didn’t want to be wasteful. Best believe I’ll be back though!
